O blog faz hoje três anos. De todos os bichos que já fiz estes ganharam uma importância especial. Todos os dias são acarinhados, babados, abraçados, virados de pernas para o ar.

Espero que todos os outros que saíram das minhas mãos também sejam tratados assim. Mas, a julgar pela amostra, tenho quase a certeza que sim!

My blog turns 3 today. From all the bichos I've done so far these little 3 are special. Everyday, they're cuddled, drooled, hugged, turned upside down.

I hope all the others I did are happy too. But I'm almost sure, look!

Vejo o meu filho crescer todos os dias. Adora babar o último livro da Tangerina e fazer sons estridentes!

These days, I'm drawing still-life scenes and working on her for school.

I see my baby growing everyday. He loves to drool over the last book from Planeta Tangerina and to do strident sounds!

Os Bichos da Matos foram ao jardim da Estrela para mais uma edição do mercado Crafts & Design. Houve gente, muita gente, houve concertos de jazz e espectáculos de capoeira e festas de anos com muitas crianças e cor, muita cor. Há um ano foi assim.
P.S.: A primeira fotografia é para ela.

Bichos da Matos went to the garden of Estrela to another edition of Crafts & Design market. Lots of people came to listen to a jazz concert or to see a capoeira show and there were anniversary parties everywhere and children and color, lots of color. One year ago Bichos went for the first time.

Um casal de macacos Bichos da Matos, um pássaro da Leonôr, um gato da Alessandra, um estojo da Diane e outras criações do Handmade actual vão estar em exposição no Musée du Costume et de la Dentelle, em Bruxelas, a partir de amanhã e até 31 de Dezembro.
Há muitas mudanças no ar, mas hoje gostava de estar no plat pays...

A couple of Bichos da Matos monkeys, a bird from Leonôr, a cat from Alessandra, a knitting roll from Diane and other creations of the Handmade are going to be a part of an exhibition at the Musée du Costume et de la Dentelle, in Brussels.

This weekend I went to my aunt and uncle's house and brought this chintz's bag made by my grand-mother full of little treasures: laces, trims, bias tape no longer available in any store. And I found a little more of that fabric I love!

Uma das coisas boas que o Natal me traz é o meu sobrinho. Brincamos, jogamos e rimos. Entre muitas outras brincadeiras, este ano jogámos ao "Detective amador", um jogo da Majora dos anos 60 emprestado pela avó.

One of the good things about Christmas is spending time with my nephew. We play, we joke, we laugh all the time. This year we played to "Detective amador", a portuguese version of Cluedo, from Majora, a game from the 60's that belonged to his grandmother.

A minha mãe fazia tricot muito bem, infelizmente não teve tempo de me ensinar.
A minha avó fazia tricot muito bem e, quando eu era pequena, insistia constantemente para me ensinar mas eu preferia andar a brincar no horto mágico atrás de minha casa com a minha melhor amiga.
A minha tia faz tricot muito bem e fez-me este cachecol que trago com estas lãs. Hoje quero e estou a aprender a tricotar. Comecei pelos mini cachecóis dos bichos. Espero em breve conseguir fazer um para mim!

My mother knitted very well. Unfortunately she hadn't the time to teach me. My grandmother knitted very well and when I was little she often insisted to teach me but instead I chose playing with my best friend in the magical garden outside our house. My aunt knits very well and made me this woolen scarf with these yarn. Today I want to knit and I'm learning how to do it. It started with the mini scarves I did to the bichos. Hopefully, soon, I'll do one for myself alone!

Esta altura do ano é assim. A luz é branca, de Inverno, fria. O tempo não tem ajudado à fotografia, mas é óptimo para ficar em casa a cortar e coser orelhas de ovelha e de cão.
(Aos pouco vou enchendo as prateleiras da loja... está quase!)

Working, working, working. In this time of year it's like that. The light is white and cold. The weather is not great to take photos but it's perfect to stay at home cutting and sewing dog's and sheep's ears.

"Como funciona?"). Na adolescência e idade adulta, Fernando Pessoa, William Golding (e o maravilhoso "O senhor das moscas"), Jorge Amado, Franz Kafka, Albert Camus, Ana Teresa Pereira ( que me prende como poucos). E de volta à infância Emily Gravett, Suzy Lee, os livros da Planeta Tangerina, Quentin Blake e muitos, muitos mais. E, já agora, este "It's a book", de Lane Smith, que deverá estar nas minhas mãos não tarda nada!

The weekend was good. The Bichos were protected by the big sycamore in jardim da Estrela. Once more, they had the best company of all and lots of good visits. Vicente showed up with his monkey. He calls him Brincalhão (the best translation would be "Joker") :-)

Quando era criança li e reli este livro, de Margaret Mahy e ilustrações do maravilhoso Steven Kellogg, que conta a história de um rapaz chamado Roberto que um dia a caminho de casa é seguido por um hipopótamo e no dia seguinte também e no dia depois desse...Embora a casa dos pais de Roberto fosse grande ter dezenas de hipopótamos no jardim não era uma ideia que agradasse aos donos da mansão. É aqui que entra a bruxa e dá uma poção mágica ao menino. Os hipopótamos desapareceram num ápice mas no dia seguinte um novo animal cruza o caminho de Roberto e no dia seguinte também e no dia depois desse...

P.S.: Gostava de voltar a encontrar outros dois livros da minha infância do mesmo autor:"Uma jibóia de estimação" e "Busca, Leão, busca", edição Livros Horizonte. Não os encontro em lado nenhum a não ser em bibliotecas. Quem me pode ajudar?

A luz é de Outono, as cores são de Outono e as andorinhas não trazem de volta a Primavera, por isso para esta estação preciso de um bom cachecol quentinho e os bichos também.

Autumn's light, autumn's colors. The swallows won't bring Spring back, so for this season I'll need a good, warm and soft scarf and the bichos will have their own scarfs too.

Com os bocadinhos de tecido que sobraram da camisa feita no workshop da Rosa fiz uma orelha de cão. O tecido é este, é português e é muito macio.

With the little pieces of fabric left from the shirt I made in Rosa's workshop I did a dog's ear. The fabric is portuguese and it's very, very soft.

Quando comecei a fazer os bichos, a minha tia deu-me um saco cheio de tecidos da minha avó. Este sempre foi o meu preferido. Demorei muito até ter coragem de lhe chegar a tesoura. Mas, finalmente, agora não sobra nada...

Teoricamente o Verão acaba hoje. E o amarelo parece-me uma boa cor para receber o Outono.
Talvez esta seja a cor que melhor caracteriza Lisboa. Falta aqui o Terreiro do Paço mas é intencional. Gosto mais das coisas com uma escala humana.

In theory, Summer ends today. And yellow is a good color to welcome Autumn.
Maybe this is the color that best characterizes Lisbon. Terreiro do Paço is missing because I prefer things with a human scale.

PS: A vida nem sempre é cor-de-rosa. A máquina fotográfica que me ajuda a construir este blog acaba de avariar...felizmente tenho algumas fotografias em stock, mas tenho pena de não poder mostrar a camisa feita no workshop de sábado.
No domingo não consegui estar presente na Estrela e por isso peço desculpa, prometo que no próximo fim-de-semana não falto!

Os cães deste jogo de pares são os mesmos deste livro. No site da Emily Gravett pode-se descarregar o pdf e imprimir, cortar e colar. Colei os desenhos numa cartolina e depois apliquei uma fita cola do Shinzi Katoh para lhe dar mais resistência e cor.
